Pirate Day

Pinning the parrot on the pirate

Over 40 children attended the last reading program for the summer.  Pirates was the theme of the day.  Donna Mayne read about pirates to the younger children, while Sue Breitung read to the older children.

Becky Cronk and Leslie and Alex Brandt provided activities.  Children were blindfolded and tried to pin a parrot on a pirate.

One of the craft projects was making parrots, adding a clothes pin to them them and pinning the parrots on their shoulders.  The second project was to make pirate ships.  The children colored a flag and pasted it to a straw.  They stood the straw in a styrofoam bowl and the pirates ship was complete.

Bowls of "dirt and worms" was the snack of the morning.

Children are encouraged to continue reading for their blizzard coupons and books until the beginning of school this fall.
